Pamela Ramsey Taylor, the West Virginia official who referred to Michelle Obama as an “ape in heels” on Facebook, has gotten her job back. Taylor was temporarily removed from her job as the director of Clay County Development Corp., a state and federal-funded nonprofit, after her Facebook post went viral.
In the post Taylor said, “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.” Clay County Mayor Beverly Whaling then replied to the post saying, “Just made my day Pam.” Following backlash, Whaling soon stepped down from her position.
Both women claimed that they are not racist and did not mean to offend. Taylor deleted her comment and deactivated her Facebook account. Taylor was temporarily excused from her job but Clay County Development Corp. has announced that she will soon be returning.
According to a letter obtained by the Charleston Gazette-Mail from the organization’s acting director, Leslie McGlothin, Pamela Ramsey Taylor will be returning to her position on December 23.
