Donald Trump continues to push the false narrative that the election has been stolen from him and does not intend to concede the White House to President-elect Joe Biden without a legal fight.
The president has pushed ahead with several last-minute lawsuits to halt the counting of votes in several battleground states.
According to Business Insider, aides close to the president said that he plans to let the legal challenges conclude before conceding. The Wall Street Journal reports that there is growing frustration among the Trump team over a lack of planning and strategy ahead of the election.
On Thursday night, aides advised Trump that his last-ditch effort at winning the election was hopeless, something he brushed off.
Politico White House reporter Meredith McGraw told CBS News that “there is a recognition that this is a real uphill battle” among Trump’s advisors over the lawsuits.
An advisor to the administration said, “It’s over,” and another told CNN, Trump “is mostly alone here.” Another called his mood “black.”
Trump’s false claim of the election was stolen has caused some administration members to feel uncomfortable. The continued vitriol over the election has forced some of his aides to distance themselves from the president.
Now, with Biden projected to win the presidency, Trump’s and his advisors will be leaving the White House in January.
