A Fort Worth Texas employee has been fired after wearing a Black Lives Matter mask.
Makiya Congious, 19, was fired Tuesday by a manager who was not to keen about her wearing a Black Lives Matter mask, a move that cost her her job.
In the recorded conversation, the Whataburger manager can be heard saying, “Whataburger doesn’t want to get into anything political because we’re just hamburgers and fries, right?”
After the conversation, Congious decided to quit, giving her two weeks’ notice on the spot. But that’s when the manager told her to leave right away. “You know what? We accept it and you don’t have to come back at all,” the female manager said.
The restaurant is located in a largely Black neighborhood, where Congious says she received compliments on her mask. But after one white customer complaint, she says she was fired.
“If you can walk around the whole town with your mask on, why does it matter? It’s something of meaning to us,” Congious said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Following her dismissal, nearly a hundred protesters gathered outside the store for several hours to support the former employee.
Since then, Whataburger issued a statement, saying,” Whataburger supports racial equality. This is simply a matter of enforcing our uniform policy. Whataburger employees are provided company-issued masks.”
