Whether it’s a change of hairstyle, hair color, a beard or simply just time, these celebrities have shown us that they can switch up their look.
J. Cole prides himself on the idea that music is what’s most important. He’s even shared that he would not get his chipped tooth fix despite his success as a rapper. With that being said, it is no surprise that Cole has decided to grow his hair into free-form locs, following the likes of Jean-Michael Basquiat and Jay Z.
Maxwell went from the Afro-centric fro to the clean-cut, “I’m older now” fade. One thing that didn’t switch up was the silky voice and swag.
Drizzy Drake came into the game with a baby face and brush cut. For most of us, we met him when he was in a wheelchair in Degrassi. Years later, he switched up and became one the top rappers in the game and decided it was time to get corn rolls. Is it giving daddy or cornball?
There was a time when Steve Harvey had every man wishing they had access to his barber. Years later, he’s made his bald head just as iconic. Sharp suits were another Steve Harvey staple but with the help of his stylist, Elly Karamoh, he has transformed and refreshed Steve’s style to what Harpers Bazaar describes as “classic, simple and ornate, bossed up and accessible.”
Doja Cat has easily become one of the top artists over the past two years. She came into the game, letting everyone know there was nothing she couldn’t do. The rapper/ singer/ dancer has even pushed the envelope in the fashion world, creating looks that have almost become a signature to Doja’s brand. Despite the hype surrounding her name, it seems Doja is slowly but surely venturing into another direction.
If “I’m coming out and I want the world to know” was a person, it would be Sam Smith. When Sam came on the scene, he took over our radios with the new R&B sound we never knew we needed. Sexuality wasn’t a question. Years later, Sam has come out and become more comfortable with his sexuality. Risqué outfits, pictures and videos have all become a part of Sam’s new look.
Motherhood has taken Keke Palmer from a young Keke to a grownnnn woman.
Lil Nas X has come a long way from Old Town Road. As one of the few openly gay male rappers, he has no problem being himself and taking fashionable risks.
Chloë, Ms. Bailey, if you nasty, hit the scene with her younger sister Halle as the young singing duo. After kicking off her solo career, she has transformed into a woman who sings about love, sex and more. Her biggest flex has been her hair switch-up. Despite a head full of lengthy dreads, Chloë has rocked several hairstyles while disguising her locs.
Jay Z has been in the game for over 30 years and the mogul continues to transform and change over the years. Similar to Jean-Michael Basquiat, Jay Z now has free-form locs and has even taken similar photos in honor of Basquiat.
