White ESPN Reporter Claims She Was Demoted Because She Was White

On Friday, former ESPN sports reporter Brittany “Britt” McHenry spilled a little tea about her tenure with the network, claiming to have been demoted because she is white.  *record scratch*

Back in April 2017, ESPN made several rounds of cuts and layoffs due to the network’s decrease in TV viewership, ratings and ad sales. However, after McHenry’s demotion, as part of the network’s decision to clean house, the reporter-turned-right-wing pundit claimed her conservative views forced her out of the door.

“I’ve been openly Conservative … look how that ended up,”  she wrote at the time, but revisited the claims on Friday in a back-and-forth with other users, claiming the firing was due to her race.

“Someone who worked in a top 10 market for 10 plus years and a network (2, including ESPN) or 5. But keep watching your TV’s instant replay, Marissa,” she wrote, which prompted a response from a user that read, “Whose coverage was so good she was demoted from covering football then let go because of all her impressive work she did.”

In turn, McHenry said, “No I was demoted because I was white & made too much. First to go. Actually.”

Hours later though, McHenry deleted her tweets, and sang a different tune when asked about her claims.

“I think there were a number of factors into laying me off,” she told Deadspin. “I wish nothing but the best for the people there.”
