White Supremacists Tricked Soulja Boy And Former Football Player Brett Favre Into Recording Video With Anti-Semitic Message

Former football player Brett Favre and rapper SouljaBoy were tricked into saying anti-Semitic comments on an app by white supremacists.

On the app Cameo, users are allowed to communicate with celebrities, and former celebrities have the ability to make statements that the app calls “personalized video shoutouts.” White supremacist users used the app to connect with Favre and Soulja Boy and paid them to make mysterious statements about their support for the U.S. troops which also included anti-Semitic dog whistles.

The group called “GDL”— the Goyim Defense League — paid Favre $500 for the video message. “Brett Favre here with a shoutout to the Handsome Truth and the GDL boys,” Favre reportedly says in the video viewed by BuzzFeed News. “You guys are patriots in my eyes. So keep waking them up and don’t let the small get you down. Keep fighting, too, and don’t ever forget the U.S.S. Liberty and the men and women who died on that day. God bless and take care.” The word “small” is a slur that refers to yarmulkes and the U.S.S. Liberty, which is a naval ship that was attacked in 1967 by Israeli forces in an incident both governments described as an accident. The vessel was attacked by Israeli forces due to them thinking it was an Egyptian ship.

In Soulja Boy’s video message he is heard saying, “Shoutout to Handsome Truth and Sway at GDL. GDL for life, bitch.” Both have since issued statements apologizing and explaining how they were unaware of the group’s affiliation and purpose.

“I was distressed to learn that the request came from an anti-Semitic group that reposted my video with comments implying that I endorsed their mission,” read the statement in part. “Nothing could be further from the truth. I am therefore donating my $500 Cameo fee to Charities supporting their fight against hate and bigotry,” Favre said via Facebook.

“Soulja Boy was unaware that the video on Cameo was tied to a group that promotes hate,” said a statement from Soulja Boy’s team. Both videos have been removed from the site.
