There’s a new story about a white person calling the cops on a Black person literally every week. This time a white homeowner called the cops on a Black child for mowing the wrong lawn.
Reggie Fields, 12, is the owner of Mr. Reggie’s Lawn Cutting Service in the Cleveland, Ohio, suburb of Maple Heights. With the help of his brothers, sisters and cousins, Fields successfully runs his company. Business was going great until last week when the police showed up while the kids were mowing a lawn.
According to Lucille Holt, the woman who hired Fields to cut her yard, another neighbor called the police on the children because they’d accidentally mowed a strip of their lawn. “They said the kids cut their grass,” Holt told WEWS. Holt ended up posting a video on Facebook that went viral. Fields said he didn’t even realize he was partially mowing some of the wrong lawn.

“They called the police to tell the police that the kids was cutting their grass. Who does that?” she said in the video. Since the incident, Fields has received several new clients. What was first four to five yards a day became people calling from out of town for Field’s assistance.

“The City of Maple Heights is extremely proud of these young entrepreneurs!” Mayor Annette M. Blackwell said in a statement Sunday, calling the episode “a very heartwarming story and testament to the great children and generous people that live here.” The 7th-grader plans to extend his business by buying rakes and shovels so he can pick up leaves in the fall, and snow in the winter.

As for the neighbor, Linda Krakora, who is white, she claims she and Holt have been on bad terms for some time. She refers to Holt as “bad neighbors” and communicates with her through police, according to New York Times.
