Activists and authorities in South Africa are at odds over a graduation party listed as a “whites only” party.
According to the New York Post, there was a clash between the two during a protest led by 2,000 members of the Economic Freedom Fighters—a radical left political party. Members are outraged that Brackenfell High School in Cape Town allowed parents to have an off-site “whites only” party.
The protest resulted in police firing tear gas and water cannons at demonstrators, Al Jazeera reported.
Apparently, there’s a rule that only 100 protesters can gather at one time.
A flyer for the party was distributed via WhatsApp but only to a select group of people, including several teachers. It was clear that Black students weren’t invited.
