A Whitney Houston biopic is in the works, with the legendary singer’s estate’s approval.
Clive Davis, celebrity music producer, and music mogul, will be working with Whitney Houston’s estate for a forthcoming biopic titled, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody.’
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony McCarten, who is the writer of the Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ will write the screenplay, while Stella Meghie, who worked on Issa Rae romance ‘The Photograph,’ will be the director.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s Sister-In-Law, will produce the movie on behalf of the Houston Estate, along with Davis, Primary Wave Music’s Larry Mestel, Denis O’Sullivan, and McCarten.
With the backing of the estate, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ will be able to use Houston’s music catalog. The movie currently doesn’t have distribution.
Houston is one of the most successful recording artists in history. The late singer sold more than 200 million records worldwide. Her hit singles include “Saving All My Love for You,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” She also was the leading actress in the blockbuster 1992 film ‘The Bodyguard’ and recorded original music for the movie’s soundtrack. She died in 2012 at the age of 48-years-old.
