The late Whitney Houston is the first black artist to have three diamond-certified albums. Whitney has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, according to The Recording Industry Association of America. Whitney joins The Bodyguard and Houston’s self-titled debut album.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” “Didn’t We Almost Have It All,” “So Emotional,” and ” Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” are all songs from Whitney that topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Bodyguard sold 18 million copies and her self-titled debut album sold 13 million copies. Recently, “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard soundtrack reached one billion views on YouTube.
The announcement comes before Houstons’ induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony will air on HBO and HBO Max on November 7 at 8 p.m. Depeche Mode, The Notorious B.I.G, The Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, and T-Rex will also be honored at the event.
