In typical social media fashion, your past will be exposed once you offend a group of people. Unfortunately for Whoopi Goldberg, this is the case seeing as her cringe-worthy fried chicken recipe resurfaces following her offensive Holocaust comments.
According to the Daily Mail, Whoopi allegedly contributed to the “Cooking in the Litchfield Hills” charity cookbook in 1993. The 66-year-old actress submitted a “Jewish-American Princess Fried Chicken” recipe for a cookbook.
The cookbook included Diana Sawyer and Eartha Kitt recipes, but Whoopi’s recipe page featured some eyebrow-raising humor.
“Send chauffeur to your favorite butcher shop for the chicken (save the brown paper bag.) Have your cook 1) Melt equal parts oil and butter 3/4 deep in skillet over moderate heat. 2) Put flour, seasoned with remaining ingredients, into the brown paper bag. 3) Rinse chicken parts and place in the bag,” Goldberg wrote.
The recipe continued, “Then you tightly close top of the bag (watch your nails) and shake ten times. Hand bag to Cook, go dress for dinner. While you dress, have Cook, preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and brown chicken slowly in skillet. When evenly browned, have Cook place chicken in dish in oven. Have Cook prepare rest of meal while you touch up your makeup.”
At the time, the Anti-Defamation League wasn’t here for the recipe, saying it’s “insulting” and “anti-semitic.”
“It’s a lousy recipe with insensitive and anti-Semitic ingredients. Whoopi should know better,” they mentioned.
However, Whoopi later responded to the critics by claiming she has a Jewish background.
“My family is Jewish, Buddhist, Baptist, and Catholic. None of which I subscribe to, by the way, as I don’t believe in man-made religions.”
