Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. Even writing about this topic makes the cramps creep up. It is something that every woman goes through by nature… your menstrual cycle. The pms: the cramps, the moodiness, the cravings, the weight gain *sigh*, and the fatigue.. who signed us up for this and why?!?!
PMS makes you soooo unproductive. All I want to do is lay up watching tv eating bon bons. (“Can someone bring me some midol and a snickers?!”). I have VERY IMPORTANT TASKS to get done!!! Ive got a to do list with 101 things that need to be completed before sundown… i am an ambitious woman and right now… life is NOT supporting me in accomplishing those goals! Right?!?!
Wrong.
Its soooo easy to feel so crappy and hate the world for this monthly cycle that seemingly stops life dead in its tracks. But what if I told you there is a solid purpose in PMS? We all know the purpose of your monthly cycle. Your body is preparing you to be able to carry a baby. But have you ever stopped and thought that maybe the symptoms of PMS that you endure every month have a purpose as well? Allow me to explain.
In our ambition, we are so caught up in ‘getting to the finish line’. All we know, is go go go. But what you may not realize is, the MOST progress is made in what i affectionately call: ‘divine timeouts’. Those times where we are forced to sit out the game, reflect, re-imagine.. recreate the drawing board, and not to mention… REST.
What happens when a car runs on E? What happens when your phone is low battery and hasn’t been charged? IT DIES. Same thing for us. We try so hard to go against our inner intelligent system, which sometimes tells us that we simply need to REST. Does your phone operate best on low battery, or a full battery? Does your car engine run smoothly on E or on a full tank? You get my point.
As feminine beings, one of our greatest gifts, is our intuitive ability to FEEL. Our connection to our emotional selves is the very reason we are able to give life, literally AND figuratively. Sure we can get up and work like our male counterparts, but to fully ignore your innate sensitivity, is to do yourself and the world a deep injustice.
When we are soooo caught up within the rat race, we sometimes forget that we are FEMININE beings who operate best on rest. Our menstrual cycle, which i affectionately call the ‘Sacred Cycle’, is our body sitting us down, telling us to embrace our womanhood and REST. Downtime is SO underrated, when in reality, downtime promotes stillness, and stillness bring all solutions to your life’s most difficult problems. That is why women are the thinkers, and men are the ‘movers’. A balance of BOTH is needed for optimal fulfillment and success.
So next time you are on your Sacred Cycle. Just chill. lol. Honor that which your body is conveying to you. Check in with your body and ask what it needs. Feel your heart beat. Sleep. Pleassssse SLEEP. And like a slingshot watch how much energy your body gives you and how it propels you forward beyond your wildest dreams!!
