Despite Kanye West’s controversial comments surrounding “free thought,” Will Smith still commends Ye for his impact on popular culture.
During a rare hour-long interview with Rap Radar, Smith spoke candidly on a variety of topics including his thoughts on West’s commentary about slavery and the rapper’s admiration for Donald Trump.
“That’s what I love about Kanye right now. He’s willing to take the smashdown in order to push ideas,” Smith said. “He’s making people think, even in the twisted, backhanded success of Donald Trump.”
The multi-hyphenate entertainer also went on to share his thoughts on his fellow Philadelphia-native, Meek Mill and his fight for social justice and prison reform.
“I love the position that he has found himself in, that he’s embracing,” Smith said. “Historically for the African American male, the road that he’s traveled has a beautiful historical pattern to it that is imbuing him with massive amount of power right now.”
“He’s educating himself, and he’s taking a position in the world that I think is going to be life-changing for him. He has my full support. I want to see him win,” he added.
