The Will and Jada saga continues.
Following Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s record-breaking Red Table Talk episode on Facebook Watch, a source is now shedding more light on the couple’s rough patch, which led Jada to embark on an “entanglement” with R&B singer, August Alsina.
A source close to the couple revealed to PEOPLE that their marital tribulations were intensified by their fame. In addition, the source also said that it was Will who felt “more of the pressure” to make their 23-year marriage work.
“They’re two different people trying to make it, and on top of it, there’s this huge spotlight on them. People are always going to grow and change, but most don’t have the world watching their every move while they do that.”
During the couple’s Red Table Talk last week, they confirmed that they had briefly separated nearly four years ago. It was during this break up that 48-year-old Jada Pinkett found herself in “a different kind of entanglement” with August Alsina, who was also a friend of her son, Jaden, at the time.

While Jada tried to downplay the relationship in a sense by calling their fling everything but a romantic relationship, she finally confessed, “Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely.”
Despite the rendezvous with now 27-year-old August, the couple was able to reconcile and work through their issues.
“She would be the first person to admit marriage is hard work, but she will always love Will. Even when they haven’t been together, Jada always spoke of her marriage as something special,” a friend of Jada also told PEOPLE.
“Through that particular journey, I learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturities, emotional insecurity, and I was really able to do some really deep healing,” Jada said to her husband during their highly streamed conversation.
“And as I came through and started to realize certain things about you and I, he decided to break all communication with me, which was totally understandable. And I let that be and hadn’t talked to him since so it is a little weird that all this stuff is coming out now since this was several [years ago],” she said of the current status of she and August.
