Will Smith is setting the record straight on rumors linking him to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious legal charges. During a performance at the Observatory North Park theater in San Diego on Dec. 12, the Oscar-winning actor took a moment between songs to address the memes and speculation circulating online.
“The world we’re in right now, it’s really hard for y’all to discern what’s real and what’s true,” Smith said in a video shared on TikTok and later obtained by TMZ. “I’ve been seeing y’all’s memes and stuff. Some of that stuff’s funny. … But I just wanna say this very clearly: I don’t have s— to do with Puffy, so y’all can stop all them memes. You can stop all of that bulls—.”
Smith, 56, who has been photographed with Combs at industry events over the years, firmly denied any involvement. “I ain’t been nowhere near that man, ain’t did none of that stupid s—,” he said. “So whenever y’all hear it, if somebody say that, it’s a damn lie.”
Smith even made a lighthearted joke, referencing items allegedly found during a raid on Combs’ properties: “I don’t even like baby oil,” he quipped, eliciting laughs from the audience.
Combs, 55, remains in federal custody following his September indictment on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors allege that Combs orchestrated “freak-offs” involving coercion and elaborate performances, and that authorities discovered drugs and over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant during raids earlier this year.
Combs has denied the allegations, calling them part of a “reckless media circus.” His legal team recently withdrew an appeal for bail, meaning he will stay behind bars until his trial in May 2025.
Smith isn’t the only celebrity addressing online speculation about Combs. Jamie Foxx also debunked similar conspiracy theories during his new Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, where he joked about leaving Combs’ infamous parties early. “I left them parties early. I was out by 9. Something don’t look right. It’s slippery in here,” Foxx quipped.
Smith ended his remarks by addressing the memes directly. “Y’all was having me mad,” he said. “But that one — your memes was doin’ too much.”
