Willow Smith says she’s proud of her mother Jada Pinkett Smith for opening up about her former relationship with August Alsina.
A few months back, the internet went wild after Alsina revealed that he had a romantic relationship with Pinkett-Smith. The revelation ended up bringing the Smiths to the “Red Table Talk” where they confirmed they were separated when Pinkett-Smith became involved with the singer. In the midst of that, everyone began creating their own ideas about the family’s drama, some suggesting that the entire situation was possibly embarrassing for their children, Willow and #JadenSmith.
However, Willow, who joins her mother on the Facebook talk show, said in the latest episode that she is proud of her mother for sharing her truth. “I want to put it on the table. I’m so proud of you. To be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, ‘OK, that’s the real deal,'” Willow said, adding that her parents’ conversation showed “That’s real love.”
Pinkett-Smith came to Alsina’s defense, saying that the singer isn’t a “home wrecker.” “What August was actually trying to communicate — because I could actually see how he would perceive it as permission because we were separated amicably — I think he also wanted to make it clear that he’s not a homewrecker, which he’s not.” The actress went on to say that she didn’t feel her” entanglement” with Alsina didn’t break any code of conduct within her marriage to Will. She said she doesn’t “really look at it as a transgression at all.”
The two confirmed they had split briefly during their earlier “Red Table Talk.” “I was done with your ass, but marriages have that, though,” Will said. “We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out a way to make yourself happy, and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.”
Willow said that the way her parents handled a very sensitive matter taught her a lesson about relationships, PEOPLE reports. “Like, when you can be like, ‘I’m with you. I’m going to stand by you, and I’m going to hold your hand’… that’s really important,'” the singer said.
