Thanks to the exciting new rookie class and increased fan engagement, the WNBA is experiencing unprecedented growth and popularity.
The WNBA is thriving, and much of the credit goes to the standout rookie class led by Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, and Caitlin Clark.
With the first month of the 2024 season behind us, the league has released its TV ratings and attendance figures for May, showing massive increases compared to last year. TV ratings have hit all-time highs, and attendance is the highest it’s been in 26 years.
Approximately 400,000 fans attended WNBA games in May, the highest number since 1998. Over half of the league’s games resulted in sellouts, a 156% increase from last season.
TV viewership has also seen a significant boost. WNBA games have averaged 1.32 million viewers per game across ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, and CBS, almost three times more than last season.
The season opener between Clark’s Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun averaged 2.12 million viewers on ESPN2, ESPN+, and Disney+, making it the most-watched WNBA game on any Disney platform in history.
A rematch between the Fever and the Sun on ESPN six days later drew an average of 1.56 million viewers, the highest for any WNBA game on the network.
