An Illinois woman has been charged with first-degree murder after fatally shooting a man who refused to kiss her at a get-together.
The tragic incident occurred Thursday. 28-year-old Claudia Resendiz-Flores was hanging out and drinking with two friends, a couple at an apartment that she had moved into with them.
The suspect allegedly asked her friend James Jones, 29, for a kiss. He turned down her request and instead kissed his girlfriend.
Resendiz-Flores was upset and became jealous. Cook County prosecutors stated. She then became more aggressive and asked for a kiss again. Jones said no again, which caused Resendiz-Flores to grab her handgun that she had stashed between the couch cushions.
Jones attempted to defuse the situation, but Resendiz-Flores had turned the safety off and shot Jones in the chest, Newsweek reported.
Jone’s girlfriend called the police. Resendiz-Flores admitted to shooting the victim and was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.
Judge John F. Lyke, Jr. ordered that the suspect be held without bail.
