A New York woman has been killed while trying to help save her friend’s teen daughter from her violent boyfriend.
The murder took place on Friday night when 36-year-old Franchelli Almonte was asked to drive her friend to pick up her daughter, who was at the home of her 17-year-old boyfriend. Once the two women arrived at the Syracuse apartment, the boy told the girl that she could not leave. At some point, she was able to exit the home and get into the vehicle with her mother and Almonte. When the girl got into the backseat of the car, her boyfriend tossed a brick into the back window. He then went over to the driver’s side of the car, where Almonte was seated. The woman tried to use a stick in the car to fend off the boy but was stabbed by him. She drove away from the scene before stopping the car only a few minutes later and losing consciousness.
“All she was doing was giving her friend a ride,” Amy Larrieux, another friend of the two women, told Syracuse.com, referring to Almonte. Larrieux said that the boy had been “controlling” and “disrespectful” throughout his three-year relationship with the girl.
Almonte leaves behind a 7-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son.
Police have been unable to locate the 17-year-old suspect.
