A Virginia woman has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for recording herself laughingly mocking and sexually abusing her boyfriend, who was dying from a drug overdose.
According to the New York Post, Stafford County Circuit Court handed down the sentence to 32-year-old Megan Anne Walthall last Friday.
Prosecutors in the case alleged that Walthall called 911 on July 15, 2019, to report that her boyfriend Brandon Dye was unresponsive.
Dye was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he later died from a heroin overdose, and investigating officers recovered drugs, paraphernalia, and a video from the scene.
Prosecutors said the video showed a callous Walthall laughing as she sexually abused the dying man; the video also proves she waited at least 45 minutes before calling 911 for help.
Walthall’s attorney argued in court that she was also on drugs at the time and made the tape to show Dye later because she was trying to get him to quit using drugs.
“It was done stupidly and wrongly, but there was no malice,” her attorney Price Koch said.
