Living in the social media age, most people cannot resist a quality selfie to post for the ‘Gram. However, one woman took her photo game to dangerous heights when she snapped a picture as her car sank into a river of ice.
The anxiety-sparking viral moment was captured by a bystander from the shore of the Rideau River in Ottawa, Canada. The witness snapped a picture of the woman wearing a red coat standing on the back of a yellow vehicle as it slowly submerged into the icy water on Sunday.
In a video taken of the incident, a concerned bystander is heard saying, “she’s going in,” as the woman makes no attempt to get to safety. Two men eventually rescue the woman with a kayak, and she is captured being pulled by rope to a more stable part of the ice.
According to a video captured from a nearby home, the woman was speeding on the ice just moments before her car suddenly stopped and began to sink. She drove over a much thinner part of the ice that caved in under the car’s weight. Paramedics responded to the scene, but the driver denied help and had no injuries.
She was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle for the potentially deadly stunt.
