An elderly woman in India whose family believed she had died of coronavirus shockingly woke up moments before being cremated.

Shakuntala Gaikwad, 76, tested positive for COVID-19 last week. Her family brought her to Jubilee Hospital, but there was no room for her. While her family waited outside in a private vehicle, the woman lost consciousness. At that point, her family believed she had succumbed to the virus.

The family brought the Gaikwad back home and prepared her for cremation. According to a local outlet, as she was about to be cremated, Gaikwad opened her eyes and began crying. The woman was brought back to the hospital for treatment.

India is in the middle of the second wave of coronavirus that sees significant increases in cases daily. According to Johns Hopkins University, the country has recorded more than 24 million cases and more than 270,000 deaths. The actual case numbers are feared to be much higher.
