YouTube has taught us many skills with its informational videos. One of those tutorials came in handy for a 10-year-old girl who helped her aunt after she passed out from giving birth.
On Tuesday afternoon, 21-year-old Dominique Spann was spending time with her niece, #ChloeCarrion, in her Fairfax County home when she began feeling ill and went to the bathroom. To Spann’s surprise, she started going into labor and immediately called for Chloe’s assistance.
“She screamed my name saying, ‘Chloe,’ and I came and she’s like, ‘There’s a baby,'” Chloe said. “She had lost a lot of blood. She had fell down, and she passed out. So I grabbed the baby and called 911.”
Chloe then wrapped her newborn cousin up and waited until authorities arrived. Her caretaking skills can be attributed to YouTube videos. “I watch YouTube videos about people playing with dolls, and I see them care for the babies, so I used stuff I knew from the videos,” Chloe said. As soon as medical officials came, they took Spann to Inova Fairfax Hospital.⠀
No one knew about the baby because Spann had been keeping the secret hidden from her family. “She didn’t tell anybody,” said Chloe’s mother. “I thought that was her regular stomach.” Spann and her baby boy Isaac are in excellent health.
