Earlier this week, Memphis-native Yo Gotti spoke with Baller Alert about his new artist, his new album, and his new mission with RocNation to ignite prison reform in the Mississippi state prison system.
“It’s a team thing with me in RocNation, I mean, JAY-Z, he just—it’s just as important to him as it is to me, so it’s a team effort…We just feel it ain’t right, not to be getting treated like humans. So we [are] standing up for it,” Gotti said.
The rapper’s lawyers have just been granted access to the Mississippi State prison system to inspect living conditions and interview inmates. However, the rapper said he is unsatisfied with the current efforts between himself and former governor Phil Bryant and added things need to happen “more quickly.”
“People died, so we got to be more urgent, we got to see things happen more quickly. Got to take it more serious because people died.”
When asked what the average person could do to help out, he responded, “Spread the word!… help us bring light to it.“
On a musical note, Yo Gotti released his 10th studio album, ‘Untrapped’ on January 31. This project represents a shift in Gotti’s street mentality, showing growth from the hustler that is profoundly displayed.
“This album is very mature—it’s on another level,” He said.
The album features artists such as: Megan Thee Stallion, Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, and Rick Ross, just to name a few. The rapper also hints at a possible new tour.
Yo Gotti isn’t just focused on his musical efforts either, his new artist Lil Migo, was with him when we caught up.
Can’t wait to see what else Yo Gotti has in store for 2020!
