Sebastian, a 12-week old Yorkshire Terrier puppy, tragically passed away Thursday night while en route to his new home.
Los Angeles resident, Cory Mcjimson bought Sebastian from a breeder in Ohio for nearly $3,000. According to People, when Mcjimson went to retrieve the puppy from Delta cargo in the Los Angeles International Airport, he found him unresponsive in his crate. Quickly, he was transported to a nearby animal hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. Sebastian was a birthday gift for Mcjimson’s 5-year-old daughter.
A Delta representative said in a statement, “Pets are an important member of the family, and we are focused on the well-being of all animals we transport. We extend our deepest condolences to Sebastian’s family and are conducting a thorough review of the situation to understand what happened.”
The breeder arranged for Sebastian to fly from Ohio to LA, with one layover in Atlanta. The Mcjimson family believes that the puppy was transported in the plane’s pressurized cargo during both flights. But this has not yet been confirmed.
Mcjimson told TMZ that Delta “would be taking care of the necropsy and cremation of Sebastian.”
