Wednesday, Chris Paul had his first introductory press conference for his newest team, the Golden State Warriors. This marked his official debut with the team after being traded just a month ago.
Ever since the trade, basketball enthusiasts have been curious about how Paul would adjust to playing for the team he has considered a rival throughout his career. There are still a lot of answers fans are waiting on. Notably, none of Paul’s new Warriors teammates were present at the press conference. It appeared to be a somewhat awkward, forced media appearance that caught Chris using a seemingly passive-aggressive attitude to answer questions.
One reporter asked the basketball star how he felt about potentially coming off the bench. Because realistically, having three guards over the age of 33, all of whom have endured significant injuries and aren’t high-level defenders at this stage of their careers, may not be an optimal starting lineup. Chris playfully fired back, asking the journalist, “You coaching?” He went on to further explain that he and Steve Kerr would discuss his role on the team during training camp.
Chris Paul’s contribution to the team’s second unit and his mentorship of the younger players could prove instrumental in unlocking their full potential. This, in turn, may position him as a strong contender for the coveted Sixth Man of the Year award. Moreover, he could find himself back in the NBA Finals if he learns to buy in.
