A free public memorial for slain rapper Young Dolph has been announced. The service will take place on Thursday, December 16th, at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.
On Monday, complimentary passes for the rapper’s “Celebration of Life” memorial became available on Ticketmaster and quickly ran out as fans flocked to grab a seat for the somber event. During the memorial, Dolph’s loved ones will speak about the cherished rapper, and artists signed to his Paper Route Empire record label are set to perform.
The hip-hop community and city of Memphis are still reeling from the shocking November 17th murder of the father and musician, who was gunned down at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies. No suspects have been announced in the case, though the getaway vehicle was discovered days later at an abandoned home.
The 36-year-old’s family laid him to rest in a private funeral on November 30th with limited press access.
Aside from the public memorial, many have paid homage to Dolph in other ways. Last week, Memphis announced that they would be renaming the intersection of Dunn Avenue and Airways Boulevard after Dolph during an unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, December 15th at 1:00 p.m. Over the weekend, the Rolling Loud festival in San Bernardino, California, paid tribute to the “Get Paid” superstar with performances from OT Genasis, Paper Route Woo, Snupe Bandz, and Dolph’s protege, Key Glock.
Thursday’s “Celebration of Life” will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
