Young Dro‘s recent appearance on The Breakfast Club nearly turned physical as he discussed his sobriety journey.
On Monday, the rapper, along with T.I., sat down with the hosts of ‘The Breakfast Club.’ During the interview, Dro opened up about his struggles with drug addiction, the road to recovery, and his time spent in rehab. While reflecting on the seriousness of his past, a member of their entourage found the moment comical and started cracking jokes, interrupting Dro’s conversation.
At first, the Atlanta rappers laughed off the reactions. But, it was visibly clear that Dro was becoming annoyed by the man. The energy in the room quickly shifted when Dro began speaking about his overdose that coincided with his daughter also being on drugs. After his revelation, the man, once again, let out some laughter. At this point, Dro loses his patience and decides to snap on the man sitting behind him.
“Aye, you finna get slapped. I mean, we cool, but I’ll slap the sh*t out ’bout that,” Dro warned the man with him responding, “You ain’t gonna slap me now.”
Dro then asks the man, “what you wanna do?” But, fortunately, T.I. quickly stepped in to de-escalate the situation. Stepping in as the voice of reasoning, T.I. urged both of the men to calm down.
“Aye, look! Remember who you came in with! Remember what we doing here, man. Come on, man. Get this sh*t together, bruh. Aiight?!,” he said in a stern voice.
Thanks to T.I. stepping in, the heated moment didn’t last long, and the interview continued without any incidents. Later, Dro apologized to the man for his actions and admitted that he allowed his emotions to take over.
“I got beside myself. I shouldn’t have taken feelings to that. That’s my dude right there. I ain’t finna be slapping no goddamn body,” Dro said.
Nonetheless, the situation serves as a reminder of how serious Dro’s sobriety journey is to him. For a while, Dro has been candid about his ongoing struggles. In fact, earlier this year, he revealed in an interview with Vlad TV that he had been clean for 17 months and was on a mission to reach two years. Despite reaching a milestone, Dro made it clear that staying sober is a continuous battle, especially with the constant temptation that is a part of the music industry.
“It’s still a struggle to actually maintain this because I still live a Hip Hop party life,” Dro explained at the time. “I go out at night. I pay my bills out of clubs and concerts where my peers are smoking and drinking, popping champagne. And that lifestyle is still there.”
