A 13-year-old girl was groped, and her father was assaulted as the two visited Times Square.
Police are still looking for the suspect from the disturbing August 7th incident. According to reports, the young girl was on West 43rd Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues shortly after 7:00 p.m. While standing on a sidewalk, an unknown man walked up behind the teen and grabbed her butt. Her 55-year-old father confronted the suspect, who punched him in the face.
Police released a surveillance image of the suspect, who appears to be an older Black man wearing a dark blue Boston Red Sox t-shirt. He quickly fled the scene after the attack and has not been identified.
Thankfully, the father only suffered a minor cut to his face and was treated at the scene. The young girl was not physically injured but is likely mentally scarred from the ordeal.
This incident is just the latest in a string of offenses that have plagued Times Square in recent months. On July 27th, a man attacked a woman with a box-cutter at the popular tourist destination. In June, a mentally unstable Navy veteran ran over and killed an 18-year-old teen and injured 22 others in a deliberate crash through the crowded street. Now, authorities are scrambling to get a handle on the crime before others are hurt.
Anyone with information regarding the groping suspect is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
