Young Thug Requesting That The Judge Throw Out “Involuntary” Comments Ahead of His RICO Trial

In response to his RICO case, Young Thug has requested to have all his “involuntary” statements tossed out by a judge.
Police have maintained that Thug was a mastermind of a street gang that committed crimes such as murder and drug trafficking.
Young Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, claims in new court documents that the two police officers who first questioned his client in Dekalb County Jail did not give Thugga the chance to waive his Miranda rights.
Steel urged that Judge Ural Glanville throw out any comments made by Thugga during that time, claiming that his client was taken into an interrogation room by ATF Special Agent T. Cunningham and Cobb County Investigator David Raissi without the approval, knowledge, or consent of his counsel.

“All of [Young Thug’s] statements must be suppressed from the trial in the above-referenced case, and all witnesses must be instructed not to utter the fact that [Young Thug] made any statements which were not voluntarily made, were made in violation of his Constitutional right to counsel and made in violation of Miranda warning,” Steel explained.

“Additionally, no mention can be made that [Young Thug] was given the opportunity to speak with law enforcement since this is post-arrest.”

Thug is also asking Glanville to return the phone and computer that authorities seized during a raid of his Sandy Springs home in July 2015.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Sprinkel sent the seized devices to Cellebrite so they could be searched even though they were meant to be returned in 2017.

According to Steel’s new documents, the prosecution violated Thugga’s “possessory interests in his lawfully obtained property that the prosecution had absolutely no legal right to possess.”

“Instead, without lawful right to keep, hold, inspect, possess or examine Mr. Williams’ property, the prosecution’ team’ continued to illegally hold Mr. Williams’ property and search these items,” Steel said.

Steel requests that any evidence obtained on those devices be excluded from use in Young Thug’s impending RICO trial.

In addition to his RICO charges, Thug was hit with new charges in August. He now also faces a new gang charge, new drug charges, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, and possession of a machine gun.

So far, Young Thug’s bond has been rejected three times, and he will likely be in custody until the set trial date on Jan 9, 2023.
