Young Thug is catching some side-eye after saying that legendary Atlanta André 3000 has never been on his music radar.
Thugger made the comments during a recent appearance on T.I’s “ExpediTIously” podcast. During the episode, T.I. compared his friend and past collaborator’s fashion sense to that of Three Stacks. Thug responded to the comparison by revealing that he was not very familiar with André 3000’s catalog despite the OutKast rapper being regarded as one of the greatest MC’s to come out of Atlanta.
“I can’t rap you two songs,” Thug admitted. “I ain’t never paid attention to him. Never in my life.”
Thug took it a step further and said that while a track with him and 3000 “would be crazy,” it wouldn’t be worth the hard work needed to secure it. He compared a hypothetical feature with 3000 to that of his past feature with Elton John, whom he says likes to “kiss ass.”
“The difference between Elton John and Andre is Elton John like to kiss ass, Andre likes his ass kissed,” Thug explained. “He’s just more of a fan type of nigga, to the point I’m like, ‘Nigga, let’s do music!’ He’s like, ‘Nigga, bet.’”
Thug’s feelings appear to be coming out of left field considering that André has praised the 29-year-old multiple times in the past.
In 2018, 3000 spoke to Complex about Young Thug, calling him and his sound “exciting.”
“There’s no box. He’s all over the place. To do those things he does, you have to have big fuckin’ balls. It’s almost harder than the guy who’s portraying hard, you know? It’s kind of mind-fucking people. It’s saying, ‘Don’t get too comfortable with me.’ That’s one of my mottos: Don’t let people get too comfortable with what you’re doing.”
The “So Much Fun” rapper doubled down on his comments when T.I. attempted to explain to him that André 3000 was an ally to Atlanta artists.
“He’s who ally? Yeah fuckin right. Why you don’t rap like him? You don’t talk like him, dress like him, look like him. You ain’t trying to portray none of that,” he said.
André 3000 has not responded to the comments, which had him trending on Twitter Friday.
Young Thug says he hasn’t worked with Andre 3000 because he feels Dre looks down on the new generation.
I feel like Thug made that up in his head.
