This post was inspired by something I have noticed in my own life. I have noticed that women are becoming more hip to their image and how certain stereotypes are based off of things like what they wear, the way they talk and how they style their hair. Some women, I have noticed, are so aware of this that they are using their image to mask their true selves. Allow me to explain.
I know a young lady, on paper she is studious. She wears glasses, is “Team Natural” with an afro or kinky twists. Wears makeup but doesn’t completely over do it. She’s by no means a sex kitten but by every means a ho. Yes ladies and gentlemen, this wanna be Jill Scott lays it low and spreads it wide but from the looks of her, you wouldn’t have a clue. Although she is the proud owner of an STD you can’t get rid of, and her morals are trash, on the surface people would look at her and see a young lady they could trust or someone that is probably very prude. This is when Your Image vs. Your Truth comes to play.Â
Think about the girl with 24 inch weave, high heels, expensive bags that loves to wear makeup. Would you believe her if she told you she was a virgin?Â
The fact is we are all pre-judged. Judging a book by it’s cover is the norm. With that said, have you or would you ever change your outer appearance to cover up your inner struggle? Under what circumstances is this okay?
