YouTuber Grace Victory woke up from a three-month-long coma after giving birth while fighting COVID-19.
“I’m awake,” is the tweet Victory tweeted after waking up following a three-month-long coma that she had to be induced into a coma just a day after giving birth to her son. Her baby boy came two months earlier than planned due to his birth having to be medically induced because of Victory’s extreme case of Coronavirus.
“Baby boy is at home thriving with his daddy,” Victory said, adding her tweet to Instagram. Victory shares her child with boyfriend Lee “LPW” Williams, People reports.
Last year, in the middle of December, Victory became terribly ill after catching COVID-19, according to her family’s post on her Instagram on Dec. 28. “Grace developed COVID-19 two weeks ago, and although her symptoms were mild at first, they worsened as the days went on,” her family said. “Which meant they had to deliver the baby as soon as possible, as she was just too unwell to carry on with the pregnancy.”
After delivering her baby, Victory’s COVID-19 got worse. “Grace was admitted to intensive care on Christmas Day due to issues with her breathing, and therefore they had to make the decision of placing her into an induced coma, to give her body the rest it needs, in order to recover,” they explained. “She’s currently stable, but please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to People, as vaccines are making their way to various parts of the country, medical experts and physicians urge pregnant people to get the vaccine. Several states have issued warnings that pregnancy presents a more high-risk condition if a case of COVID-19 were to escalate.
