Zendaya And Tom Holland Discuss Audience’s Reactions To Their Height Difference

Zendaya and Tom Holland discussed their height difference during an interview at the Sirius XM Town Hall event on Friday while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home. Holland stars as Peter Parker, and Zendaya plays Mary Jane in the film.

Host Jessica Shaw brought up an on-screen kiss the two shared in the film, mentioning the audience’s reaction to their height difference. Zendaya, 25, is visibly taller than Holland, 25. But Holland insists the difference isn’t that great.

“Not that much taller,” Holland said. “Let’s put this out there, maybe like an inch or two at best. It’s not like, people say like, ‘How did you guys kiss? It must have been so difficult.'”

Shaw then called it a problematic thing to focus on, and Holland doubled down that “it’s a stupid assumption” that height would even be an issue. For Zendaya, it’s normal.

“This is normal, too,” she said. “My mom is taller than my dad. My mom’s taller than everyone.”

Holland went on to say that most of the actresses that auditioned to play MJ were taller than him. At one point, noting that he is “quite short.”

“I remember when we were doing the Spider-Man screen tests… You’d have to ask [director] Jon Watts this question, but every girl that we tested for both roles was taller than me,” He revealed. “I wonder whether that was a decision Jon had made. There was no one that tested that was shorter than I was.”
