Zendaya is making it very clear who is at the top of her professional wish list. While appearing on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the actress was asked if there is a specific filmmaker she is eager to team up with. Without missing a beat, she named the man behind “Sinners” and “Creed.”

I would love to work with Ryan Coogler,” Zendaya said without hesitation.
For Zendaya, the desire to work with Coogler isn’t just about his current blockbuster success. It’s a goal she has held onto since his 2013 debut film, “Fruitvale Station.” The movie, which told the story of Oscar Grant III, resonated deeply with her because of their shared upbringing in Oakland, California.
“For years I’ve felt this way, since ‘Fruitvale Station,’ because I thought that was such a beautiful and powerful film,” she explained.
The connection goes beyond just appreciating the cinematography. Zendaya feels a familiar, almost familial bond with Coogler because of how he represents their hometown. She noted that his presence and even his voice remind her of her own circle back in the Bay Area.
“I remember when that happened, and so he means so much to the world, but he also means so much to us,” she said. “I always joke, I’m like, ‘I know I don’t know you, but I feel like you’re my cousin.’ His accent is so strong, and so Oakland, and he just makes beautiful work.”
While Zendaya is busy manifesting this partnership, she is also looking forward to some downtime. After a heavy schedule of upcoming releases like “The Drama” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” she told Fandango that she plans to step out of the spotlight for a while.
“I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year because I’ll tell you what — I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”
