Publix is taking swift action after discovering that some of its Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream containers were filled with French Vanilla instead, a version that contains eggs not listed on the label. The grocery chain confirmed the recall on Thursday, October 16th, citing customer safety as the reason behind the move.
According to Publix, a production mistake led to the wrong flavor being packed into half-gallon containers labeled as Vanilla Ice Cream. Because the original Vanilla flavor does not contain eggs, the error could cause serious allergic reactions for people with egg sensitivities.
The affected products are half-gallon containers of “Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream” with a UPC code of 41415 03043 and a sell-by date of June 19, 2026. Stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee received the product, though Publix confirmed locations in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota were not impacted.
“The safety of our customers is our top priority,” Publix said in a statement. “We are asking anyone who purchased the recalled ice cream to return it to any Publix store for a full refund.”
No illnesses have been reported so far, but the company is urging customers to check their freezers and contact the Publix hotline at 1-800-242-1227 for more details.
