Queen Latifah is adding another title to her already stacked résumé, this time as the newest coach on NBC’s “The Voice.” The network confirmed the Grammy-winning entertainer will join Season 30 of the long-running singing competition when it returns this fall alongside Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and country star Riley Green.
For NBC, the move feels less like stunt casting and more like a full-circle TV moment. Queen Latifah has spent decades building one of the most versatile careers in entertainment, moving from hip-hop success into sitcoms, daytime television, film, and prestige drama without losing cultural relevance along the way. Now she’s stepping into one of television’s most recognizable red chairs as “The Voice” celebrates a major milestone season.
The series first premiered in 2011 and quickly became one of NBC’s biggest unscripted hits thanks to its celebrity coach format and rotating lineup of music industry personalities. Over the years, stars including Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, Usher, Christina Aguilera, and John Legend helped turn the franchise into a ratings staple. Shelton remained with the show for 23 seasons before exiting in 2023, making him the longest-running coach in franchise history.
Queen Latifah’s television background also makes her one of the more experienced additions the show has recruited in years. Beyond starring in “Living Single” and later fronting “The Queen Latifah Show,” she earned critical praise for HBO’s “Bessie” before leading CBS’s action drama The Equalizer. She has also appeared as a guest judge on competition shows including “America’s Got Talent.”
Her arrival follows recent comments she made about the entertainment industry’s future during the 2025 Red Sea International Film Festival. “The technology is coming and it’s not going anywhere,” she said. “We need to figure out how to make it better.”
Still, the icon made clear she believes human creativity cannot be duplicated. “Nothing will replace our experience and our wisdom,” she added.
NBC says Season 30 will also include appearances from former coaches and mentors tied to the franchise, giving the anniversary season an added layer of nostalgia.
