The Los Angeles Rams just raised the bar for draft season content, dropping a short film titled “Thursday” that serves as a tribute to the 1995 hit film Friday.
In a genius bit of casting, the Rams brought in O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Destin Tucker to play the roles of Craig and Smokey, the same characters that turned their fathers, Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, into comedy legends.
Leaning into the West Coast aesthetic that the Rams have embraced since returning to L.A., the iconic Ice Cube theme song set the tone as Jackson and Tucker navigated a neighborhood filled with familiar faces and Rams themed easter eggs.
The spotlight was stolen by Terry Crews, who actually played for the Rams back in the early ’90s. Crews channeled his inner Deebo, patrolling the streets on a beach cruiser with Rams linebackers Jared Verse and Byron Young acting as his muscle.
In a hilarious recreation of the “What chain?” scene, Crews snatches a Rams ring from Tucker’s pocket. When Tucker tries to get it back, Crews hits him with the line, “What ring?,” one of the original film’s most quoted moments.
Other cameos kept the energy high throughout the short. West Coast rapper YG showed up in a velvet robe as Stanley, and Rams guard Kevin Dotson went all in as “Big K-Dot.” Dressed in hair rollers while sitting in a lowrider, an obvious nod to Big Worm, Dotson delivered the line of the night, “Playing with these picks is like playing with my emotions.”
By the time the screen faded to black with the tagline “A lot can go down between Thursday and Saturday,” the message was clear. The Rams aren’t just looking for new players, they’re owning the L.A. spotlight.
