Ryan Garcia claims he’s sorry for his racist rants throughout the week, and is taking steps to get help.
“I take all responsibility for my words,” Garcia wrote as part of a series of tweets Friday. “Sorry everyone that I offended.”
The disgraced boxer took also stated, “Rehab about to be awesome.”
It’s unknown what he is being treated for, but Garcia has said that he drinks heavily. There have also been rumors about possible cocaine use, though Garcia has denied this. While announcing his treatment, Garcia also took an opportunity to call out the World Boxing Council. After his vile remarks towards Black people and constant use of the N-word, the organization’s president, Mauricio Sulaimán, expelled him for life. Garcia believes he is being singled out and accused some of his fellow boxers of being bigots with no punishment.
“So wbc so many other people have said racist remarks and you never expelled. I’m expelled for life. It’s okay, just don’t try to work with me ever again even after I get clean and sober,” he wrote, adding, “The problem is Devin has said racist things, and so has Tim Bradley and NADA. You do nothing.”
The WBC has not responded to his claims. However, it appears they are standing firm in their stance to keep Garcia away. In response to his language throughout the week, the fighter claimed that using the N-word was acceptable because of where he grew up.
“In the hood, everyone has said the N-word. And everyone knows that,” another tweet read.
No matter the true nature of his issues, Garcia does not appear to have been forgiven by the majority of social media, which has called for his cancellation indefinitely.
