Skippy is recalling 161,692 pounds of peanut butter after it was contaminated with steel metal pieces from the manufacturing equipment.
On Wednesday, Hormel Foods, Skippy’s parent company, announced the recall will affect roughly 60,000 jars of peanut butter. The recall includes Skippy’s Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter, Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter and Creamy Peanut Butter with Plant Protein.
“We apologize to our fans for this inconvenience,” Skippy says. “Our company is committed to product quality and will continue to invest in our processes. To ensure the quality and wholesomeness of our products.”
The company is asking customers to return products with the UPC codes of 37600-10520, 37600-10667, 36700-10499, or 37600-88095. In addition, Skippy says containers with “best if used by May 2023” printed on the lids could also be affected. However, a full list of contaminated products is posted on their website.
There haven’t been any reported cases of injuries from the peanut butter. Customers can return their affected products to their retailer for an exchange or contact Skippy Foods Consumer Engagement.
