Texas lawmakers are back at it with another restriction and this time it’s on sex toys.
Senate Bill 3003, introduced by State Senator Angela Paxton, would require online shoppers to prove they’re 18 or older before buying any “obscene devices” (aka sex toys).
That means submitting a government-issued ID or using an age-verification service, even if you’re paying with a credit card.
Critics are calling it an invasion of privacy.
“The government should not have a record of what sex toys we buy. This isn’t just a frivolous concern,” said author Hallie Lieberman.
She warned that in a political climate where trans rights are under attack, tracking purchases of sex toys designed for trans people could be dangerous.
Texas already has some wild laws on the books, like banning ownership of six or more sex toys. Now, SB 3003 could make shopping for pleasure even riskier.
Online retailers who don’t comply could face fines up to $50,000 and Class A Misdemeanor charges.
Looks like Texas wants to keep a close eye on what’s inside your bedside drawer.
