A Texas woman who hurled racist threats at a federal judge and promised violence if Donald Trump lost re-election is now missing instead of behind bars.
Federal authorities say Abigail Jo Shry, 45, failed to report to a Tallahassee prison on February 19 to begin her 27-month sentence. So now, a judge has signed off on a warrant for her arrest.
Shry pleaded guilty in November 2024 after leaving a threatening voicemail for U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, who oversaw a federal election interference case involving Donald Trump. According to the Justice Department, Shry called chambers on August 5, 2023, saying, “Hey, you stupid slave n***r” and “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we’re coming to kill you. So tread lightly, b***h.”
She didn’t stop there, adding “You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it,” and “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.”
Investigators tracked the call within days to her Houston-area cellphone. Shry admitted she made the threats but claimed she never planned to act on them. She also argued the First Amendment protected her words.
However, prosecutors pointed to a pattern. Shry also threatened members of Congress, Texas lawmakers, and even referenced an “armed attack” on the state Capitol tied to the impeachment of Ken Paxton.
Her father described her as a “non-violent alcoholic” who watches the news, drinks heavily, and makes calls when agitated.
Still, the court wasn’t moved.
Now, instead of serving time, Shry is on the run.
