Romance drama film, The High Note, starring actresses Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson, will be released on May 29, on-demand. Originally scheduled to be released on May 8 in theatres, the film will now be available for streaming on platforms such as Fandango, Amazon, and Apple.
Focus Features, a production company under Universal Pictures, is responsible for releasing the film, which showcases what Ross described as her life long dream.
The actress shared her excitement for The High Note release, via Instagram. “I have some exciting news to share,” Tracee said. “The movie that I have been so excited about finally has a revamped release date. On Friday, May 29, The High Note will be available on-demand, on streaming platforms, in your home for you to rent […] I am so proud of this movie. And, I shared it, but I get to sing in this movie. [It’s] a life-long dream and one of my biggest fears… It’s so exciting.”
She continued, “This is not what any of us expected, but you know what, we go with the flow. We move with the moment. We make the best of what is here. And, this movie, is going to bring some joy into your heart, I hope. I can’t wait to hear what you guys think.”
This isn’t the first Universal Pictures film that has switched to a digital release. Trolls World Tour and The King of Staten Island also made the switch. After that decision, UP CEO Jeff Shell announced that his studio will continue to release films digitally as well as in theaters.
Upset by the news, the largest cinema chain made a drastic announcement of their own. In return, AMC Theaters announced that they will no longer show Universal Pictures movies.
For interested viewers, you can rent the film for 48 hours for $19.99.
