Todd and Julie Chrisley have been awarded $1 million as part of a lawsuit they brought forth against the state of Georgia.
The couple sued Joshua Waites, former Director of Special Investigations of the state’s Department of Revenue. In their claim, the Chrisleys accused Waites of engaging in many unethical practices to try to bring the family down. They accused Waites of even targeting their daughter Lindsie and trying to pry information from her. When she refused to provide him with anything, the Chrisleys say Waites released the couple’s tax information to their estranged daughter.
“We have been saying for months that the criminal case against the Chrisleys was highly unusual and had real problems,” the couple’s lawyer, Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP, said in a statement. “This settlement is an encouraging sign.”
The Chrisleys were ultimately cleared of their state charges, which led to them suing Waites and Georgia. Unfortunately, they were convicted in their federal fraud bank fraud and tax evasion case, which resulted in Todd receiving 12 years in prison and his wife Julie getting seven years.
The “Chrisley Knows Best” stars began their prison terms on January 17th, 2023. Todd’s release date from the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola is slated for January 22nd, 2033. Julie is set to walk free from the Federal Medical Center Lexington in Kentucky on October 19th, 2028.
It’s unclear if this settlement with the state of Georgia will have any impacts on their sentences, such as a reduction of prison time. Nevertheless, this is a victory for the Chrisleys.
