Rudy Giuliani just secured a lifeline from the White House.
Donald Trump issued a full pardon to his longtime ally for his role in challenging the results of the 2020 election. Giuliani was central to pushing conspiracy theories and leading the now-infamous “fake electors” plot that tried to stop Joe Biden from taking office.
The proclamation, posted on Twitter by Pardon Attorney Ed Martin, stated that Giuliani and others received “full, complete, and unconditional” pardons for any federal offenses related to the election fallout.
Giuliani’s legal troubles are far from over. He still faces criminal charges at the state level in Georgia and ongoing investigations in Arizona and Wisconsin. The presidential pardon does not cover those cases.
“This proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people,” the document reads.
While Giuliani’s name stood out, the pardon also covered over 1,000 others. That list includes Sidney Powell, Mark Meadows, Boris Epshteyn, Jenna Ellis, and fake elector architects John Eastman and Ken Chesebro. Trump also extended clemency to a retired NYPD officer convicted of spying for China and gave former MLB star Darryl Strawberry a break on an old tax charge.
“This is about great Americans persecuted for challenging an election,” said Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.
