A UPS driver didn’t hesitate to save an Oak Park, Illinois boy after a heavy package fell on him, pinning him below.
The boy, 4-year-old Max Pratt, likes to help his parents by bringing in packages delivered to their home. While his mom was upstairs with his 2-year-old sister, the 40-pound boy attempted to grab an almost 100-pound box that had just been delivered to the front door. But Max was no match for the box, and his mom heard him yell for help as it tipped over.
Before she could make it down the stairs, driver Marco Angel rushed to the boy’s aid. The Pratt’s Ring doorbell showed Angel walking back to his UPS truck, but when he hears the boy’s cries for help, he races back across the busy street and lifts the package off the boy without hesitation.
“I pictured my boys in his situation, obviously, and you go into full parent mode, full dad mode,” Angel told CNN affiliate WBBM.
Max was unharmed during the incident but told CNN he felt an “ouchie.”
Pratt is thankful for Angel and hopes UPS will reward him for his good deed. She said they have also spoken to Max about going to the door alone and about asking for help if the packages are too big for him to bring inside by himself.
“Oh my gosh, he wants to do everything. Which is good,” Pratt said. “I’m all about independence, but safety too. It’s a balance.”
