Actor Ving Rhames was taken to a Los Angeles hospital Wednesday after suffering an apparent medical emergency while dining with family, according to reports and statements obtained by TMZ.
The 66-year-old performer, widely recognized for his longtime role in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise and “Baby Boy,” was eating at a restaurant when he suddenly collapsed at the table, a witness told the outlet. The diner said Rhames appeared to drift in and out of consciousness as the situation unfolded, prompting an urgent response from emergency personnel.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told TMZ that crews received a medical aid call involving a man believed to be in his 60s at approximately 1:40 p.m. local time. Officials said the patient was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Later, a representative for Rhames provided an encouraging update, saying he had spoken directly with the actor. According to the representative, it is believed Rhames became “overheated” and is expected to recover. The spokesperson added that he remains hospitalized for observation.
Rhames has maintained a prominent presence in Hollywood for decades. He is best known for portraying Luther Stickell in all eight installments of the “Mission: Impossible” series, starring opposite Tom Cruise. His performance as the skilled hacker and trusted ally made him one of the franchise’s most recognizable recurring characters.
Beyond action films, Rhames has earned acclaim for several major roles across drama and thriller genres. His career includes a memorable appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” as well as a starring role in the 1990 psychological horror film “Jacob’s Ladder.”
No additional medical details have been released, and it remains unclear when Rhames may be discharged. Fans and industry colleagues are expected to await further updates on the veteran actor’s condition as he continues recovery under medical supervision.

Ving, has to do something about his weight and I hope he’s not diabetic one. One of my top favorite actors, he gives everything in his role and character.
