Shamea Morton says the drama on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” has crossed from messy TV into real-life career damage after Angela Oakley’s allegations about her and professional athletes started following her to work.
The “RHOA” star, who is also an official in-game host for the Atlanta Hawks, addressed Angela’s claims that she allegedly slept with players from the Hawks and Falcons. Angela previously made the explosive accusation during a heated conversation on the show, saying, “Oh, but you’re f**king the Hawks players. Oh, but you’re f**king the Falcons players.” Angela later said on Watch What Happens Live that she had multiple sources discuss the Shamea rumors.
During her interview with Angela Yee, Shamea pushed back hard against the idea that her career was built on anything other than work.
“It was hard to get that job,” Shamea said. “I started interning radio when I was in college. People don’t know that.”
She continued, “I studied journalism when I was at Morris Brown College. So much so to where the things that I’ve wanted in my life didn’t just start because I got on a reality TV show.”
Shamea explained that her path to the Hawks was intentional, saying she cheered for the team in 2003, joined the Falcons in 2005, and returned to the Hawks in 2012 because she wanted to be in position for sideline reporting and in-game hosting opportunities.
“I wanted to be there in that arena to get a job sideline reporting, in-game hosting, and doing the things that I’m doing right now,” she said. “You got to get in the door.”
According to Shamea, the opportunity came when another host could not make a game.
“Funny enough, I brought some clothes in my locker,” she recalled. “Slide them on, take this uniform off. And that’s exactly what I did. And it was over after that.”
Now, Shamea says the allegations have become serious enough for legal action.
“When people discredit how hard I’ve worked and just chop it up to me laying on my back, that’s unfortunate,” she said. “Especially coming from another married woman.”
Asked if the rumors affected her at work, Shamea answered, “Absolutely.”
“I’ve gotten a few people in office ask me about it,” she said. “I don’t want to go into the details of it, but I’ve been forced to really pretty much send a cease and desist because unless you’re going to come forward with the actual names so we can talk about it, you’re just throwing out stuff.”
Shamea also made it clear that her marriage is part of why the accusations sting.
“I am married. Happily married,” she told Yee.
Angela, who is married to former NBA star Charles Oakley and is described by Bravo as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and mother, has continued to stand behind what she says she heard. But Shamea’s latest comments make one thing clear: she is no longer treating the rumor like ordinary Housewives shade.
