The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is getting attention for more than just arrests after a Target sting operation video started making the rounds online with Yung Miami’s viral “Spend Dat” playing in the background. The Sacramento Target sting video shows surveillance footage of alleged thefts taking place inside the store before cutting to multiple arrests, creating the kind of law enforcement recap that looked more like a social media edit than a standard department post.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, its Organized Retail Crime Task Force teamed up with Target on June 3, 2026, as part of a National Organized Retail Theft Blitz. The department said the effort focused on identifying and apprehending repeat offenders and retail thieves. By the end of the operation, deputies reported seven arrests, including two felony arrests under Proposition 36, three additional felony drug-related charges, and two warrant arrests tied to five outstanding warrants. Deputies also issued ten trespass notices and cited several more people.
The serious part is clear: organized retail theft has become a major focus for California law enforcement and retailers. The California Highway Patrol says organized retail theft can include coordinated stealing, receiving stolen merchandise, recruiting others, or acting as part of an organized plan to take items for resale or exchange.
Still, the internet locked in on the music choice. Pairing alleged Target theft footage with “Spend Dat” was a wild bit of timing, especially since the song itself has been moving heavily online. One viral repost noted viewers were reacting to the production choice, with some joking that “the production team must be Black.”
In its statement, the Sheriff’s Office said, “Organized retail theft continues to impact businesses, employees, and consumers throughout our community. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside our retail partners to hold offenders accountable and protect local businesses.”
So now the sting has two stories: the arrests and the rollout. The suspects will face the legal process, but the Sheriff’s Office already won the algorithm.
