Yung Miami’s Uptown Records Signing Could Be The Biggest Power Play Of Her Solo Era

Yung Miami is officially part of the Uptown Records relaunch under Republic Collective, and the move could mark one of the biggest power plays of her solo career. The former City Girls star has joined the revived label’s new roster as Uptown Records reintroduces itself during its 40th anniversary year with music executive Danielle Price Sanders serving as president of Uptown Records and executive vice president of Republic Collective, according to uDiscover Music.

The Yung Miami Uptown Records move arrives while her solo momentum is heating up. Her April 2026 viral hit “Spend Dat” debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 before climbing to No. 34, giving her a major solo win and her first Top 40 entry outside of City Girls. The song also reached No. 25 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart and moved up the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, signaling that Yung Miami’s solo era is gaining real traction.

For longtime fans, the move is also a full-circle career shift. Yung Miami first rose to fame alongside JT as one half of City Girls, the Miami rap duo that started its label journey with Quality Control Music. The duo sparked interest from QC after their 2017 breakout track “F**k Dat Nigga.”

City Girls went on to build a platinum-selling, culture-shifting brand with hits like “Act Up” and “Twerk” featuring Cardi B. However, Yung Miami’s Uptown Records signing gives her a new lane to establish herself beyond the duo’s identity and prove she can carry a solo campaign with her own voice, audience and rollout.

The label she is joining comes with major history. Uptown Records was founded in 1986 by the late Andre Harrell and became one of the most important labels in hip-hop and R&B. The imprint helped shape the careers of Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Heavy D & The Boyz, Guy, Al B. Sure! and The Notorious B.I.G., while also playing a key role in her ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs’ early music business career.

The “under Republic Collective” part matters on the business side. It means Uptown Records is not simply returning as a nostalgia brand. The relaunched label is operating inside the larger Republic/Universal Music Group system, which can give artists, such as Yung Miami, access to wider distribution, marketing, promotion, radio support, streaming strategy and label infrastructure. Music Business Worldwide previously reported that Universal Music Group’s East Coast labels were restructured around a central operational hub, allowing individual labels to keep creative independence while tapping into integrated departments.

That setup could be powerful for Yung Miami. She gets the cultural weight of Uptown Records, the credibility of a legendary Black music institution and a massive machine behind her at a time when “Spend Dat” is already proving her solo potential.

Yung Miami also appears ready for the next chapter. Speaking about the relaunch, she called Uptown “a legendary label being resurrected” and added, “Uptown already feels like home,” according to Black Enterprise.

For an artist trying to turn viral presence into long-term solo success, Yung Miami’s Uptown Records signing could be more than a roster announcement. It could be the beginning of her biggest reinvention yet.
